DARK CIRCLES AND UNDER EYE HOLLOWNESS
Fillers can be used for dark circles and under eye hollowness. Dark circles are mostly inherited characteristics seen in most people. The darkness depends on the thickness of the skin. Apart from hereditary factors, there might be other reasons resulting in dark circles under the eye. These may include ageing, drying of skin, physical or mental stress, improper dietary habits and lack of sleep. Deficiency of iron and some essential proteins such as collagen and melanin may also result in this condition. Especially relevant is that under eye hollowness can happen to anyone irrespective of age and gender.
HOW ARE DERMAL FILLERS USED TO CORRECT UNDER EYE HOLLOWNESS?
Dermal fillers work by adding volume to the lower eyelid tear trough area which starts to loose volume as we age. Filler is painlessly injected using a fine cannula after the area is thoroughly anaesthetised with local anaesthetic cream. This replenishes the lost soft tissue volume in the area, resulting in a fuller, more contoured look. The procedure takes around 15 -30 minutes and results are seen instantly. Effects of the treatment can last between 8 and 18 months.
WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS OF THIS PROCEDURE?
After the injection, localised swelling and bruising are relatively common side effects and may last for a few days. Furthermore, a good foundation can hide any bruising quite well.
Finally, to minimise the risk of bruising, we advise all our clients to avoid the following for several days prior to treatment:
• Green tea
• Fish oil capsules, Vitamin E, Ginko Biloba, St John’s Wart
• Anti-inflammatory / Blood Thinning medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.
